The 1.9km (1.2 mile) train, which is composed of 100 coaches, completed a spectacular 25km (15.5 mile) journey through the Alps.

The world record attempt took place to highlight Switzerland’s engineering achievements, as well as to mark 175 years of Swiss railways.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty Win French Open Men’s Doubles Title

India’s star men’s doubles badminton pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty defeated Taiwan’s Lu Ching-yao/Yang Po Han to win French Open, a Super 750 badminton tournament, title on Sunday. The Indian pair won 21-13, 21-19. The Indian pair, seeded seventh, thus won their second BWF world tour event in 2022, having won the India Open Super 500 tournament in January. Satwik and Chirag had won a bronze medal at the World Championships in August and also won the men’s doubles gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Earlier, they entered the final with a commanding straight-game win over Korean pair of Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won Ho, in Paris on Saturday. The world number 8 Indian pair dished out an attacking game and also controlled the net well to outwit the Korean combination, ranked 18th, 21-18 21-14 in the semifinals that lasted 45 minutes.

Up against opponents whom they have never played before, Chirag was relentless at the front court, while Satwik unleashed his booming smashes from the back as the Indians put up a clinical show at Stade Pierre de Coubertin.

Satwik and Chirag, the 2019 edition’s runner-up pair, never looked in trouble as they kept things in their grip right from the start.

The Indians came up with an all-out attack and were up 2-0 early on and despite the Koreans managing to claw back at 7-7, Satwik and Chirag ensured they were four points ahead at the mid game interval.

After the break, the Koreans briefly tried to dictate the pace of the rallies with their returns getting steeper. Soon they were 16-13 up, but an alert Chirag produced a precise return to keep moving ahead.

With the Indians hitting the net and out of the court on a number of occasions, the Koreans brought the equation down to 18-19 but Choi then committed an unforced error to hand two game points to their opponents.

Chirag then sealed the opening game with a precise smash. The Indian combination continued with their aggressive game plan in the second game which saw some good rallies early on. After 3-3, Satwik and Chirag moved to a 7-4 lead.

The Koreans, however, rallied their way back to 9-10 after a slew of exchanges but Chirag unleashed a smash to give themselves a two-point cushion at the interval.

Chirag took control of the front court as he was more alert and produced some good shots even as the Korean pair found the going tough to lag 10-15.

Two net errors from Korea took the Indian pair to 18-12. A deceptive return-to-serve gave the Koreans one more point but Chirag responded with a body return.

Promoted

Choi then hit wide to hand six match points to the Indians and Chirag sealed it with a smash and raised his arm even as his partner Satwik broke into a dance.

UK museums willing to return skulls to Zimbabwe

In doing a search of its archive, the Natural History Museum did uncover 11 remains “that appear to be originally from Zimbabwe” – but its records do not connect them with Nehanda. These include three skulls taken in 1893, thought to be from Zimbabwe’s second city, Bulawayo, as well as remains uncovered in mineshafts and archaeological digs and later donated.

Ligue 1: Majestic Lionel Messi Helps PSG Fight Back To Beat Troyes

Lionel Messi starred with a goal and an assist as all of Paris Saint-Germain’s front three scored in a 4-3 victory over Troyes on Saturday which restored their five-point advantage at the top of Ligue 1. The league leaders responded to second-placed Lens’ win over Toulouse on Friday by twice coming from behind to see off a spirited Troyes at the Parc des Princes. The attacking trio of Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have scored 43 goals between them already this season. PSG coach Christophe Galtier can now turn his attention to Wednesday’s match at Juventus, which the French club have to win to be sure of finishing top of their Champions League group.

In Paris, Troyes forged ahead with a shock opening goal inside three minutes, as Rony Lopes stabbed the ball back for Mama Balde to lash a fine volley into the net past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The hosts hit back midway through the first half, as Neymar’s clipped pass found the run of Carlos Soler and the midfielder slotted in to level.

The reigning champions then started to dominate, with Troyes ‘keeper Gauthier Gallon forced into a good save to keep out a Messi header.

But the visitors stunned the home crowd again early in the second period, with Guinea-Bissau forward Balde netting his second with a low strike on the turn.

Any thoughts of PSG suffering their first defeat of the season were quickly put to bed in the space of seven Messi-inspired minutes.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner hammered home his 12th goal of the campaign with a wonderful strike from 25 yards out which arrowed into the corner.

PSG took the lead for the first time in the game just after the hour mark, as Messi threaded a perfect pass through the Troyes defence for Neymar to fire past Gallon.

Mbappe should have made it a two-goal advantage, but he shot too close to Gallon after Neymar followed a mazy run through midfield with a remarkable flicked pass.

The France striker did get himself on the scoresheet with 14 minutes left, drilling a penalty high into the net.

Ante Palaversa pulled one back for the away team late on, but PSG held on.

On Friday, Belgium international Lois Openda scored a hat-trick after coming on as a second-half substitute in Lens’ 3-0 victory over Toulouse.

Promoted

That win moved Lens three points clear of third-placed Lorient ahead of their match against Nice on Sunday.
